Even at 2 years old, young children can face many dental problems. As a parent, you may not realize that one crooked baby tooth can throw off a child’s whole bite and cause more serious problems as they grow older. These problems include gum disease, cavity(ies), lost teeth and speech difficulties. Therefore, Dr. Berry does complete exams to check for:
- Overbite and underbite
- Teeth crowding
- Finger- or thumb-sucking
- Crooked front and back teeth
- Facial appearance problems
These common problems are quite treatable. Dr. Berry is great with children and he sees many children as young as 2. He always considers your child’s comfort and needs. He wants to minimize problems and prevent the need for future, more expensive dental care.
Early detection and care can ease proper jaw growth, improve speech, correct harmful oral habits and reduce the need for expensive future dental treatment or oral surgery. By the time your child reaches 3 or 4 years of age, Dr. Berry typically begins taking X-rays. Dr. Berry does not use any kind of sedation on children because there is no need.
